In 2010, DW Communications & Media Foundation, Inc., Green School was established, as a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. We have expanded to offer training and certifications in Green Workforce opportunities for 100+ students per year.
Our company is based on the belief that our customers' needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.
Since our inception in 2007, DW Communications & Media has worked with many students in Maryland. In our first academic year, we escorted students on nine field trips, exposing them to alternative energy sources, biomass research and conservation practices. In November of 2008, we had the opportunity of running a television ad designed to promote education in the areas of energy and environment on major networks (MSNBC, CNN, BET, FOX NEWS, and Comedy Central). The 30-second spot featured real students who helped in producing the commercial. The ad was well received and we are excited about the “buzz” it started for our program.
DW Communications & Media brings to students the world of environmental practices, alternative energy resources, the scientific community, and various areas within the field of engineering and the arena of media art production. Our media art production program is a catalyst to educate with our highly acclaimed PBS Green Education 101 television series. Our training programs can be customized and curriculum may range from eight weeks to one year. We also offer special energy summer camps.
Green School exposes students to the sciences in order to enhance their awareness, and to enlighten them on career alternatives and higher education options. The need for this type of education is great in the United States. Our country needs youth to pursue vocations in science, engineering, environmental, and media studies. For example, it has been documented that 60% of the scientific workforce from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (US Department of Energy) along with 4,500 employees from UT‐Battelle (University of Tennessee and Battelle, a research and development organization founded in 1929) will be retiring within the next 10 years.1 Statistics such as these highlight the need for environmental programs aimed at young people such as those of the DW Communications & Media Foundation, Inc., Green School.
